Decoupage: From Boring Tin to Vintage Box

Gone are the days when I was gifted new things. These days I am more happy receiving waste material. This empty tin box was my share of the last shopping we did.

While experimenting, I failed to paint the box without spoiling it one way or the other. Lack of perfection gave me the idea of creating a ‘vintage look’, which anyway came naturally to me 😛

I began with spray painting the tin box. The fun part this time was that I did not care about the uneven paint, it just saved me from ‘distressing’ it later.
I learnt it the hard way, but it is very important to let the paint dry. This will allow you to retain the look that you like.

Next, it is time for ‘Decoupage’ 🙂
I selected a tissue paper and used its floral print. For this project, I needed to separate the top layer of the tissue and use only that.

After placing the cut pieces on the box, I covered it with an old cloth and ironed it to glue the tissue on the surface. Once happy with the placement, I used pearls, stencil and blue acrylic paint to create a vintage feel.

This homeprettifier is now placed on my drawing room side-table and am extremely happy with the vintage touch it has added to the corner.
